Scholarship Program

Each year Bon Homme Yankton Electric offers one $1,000 and two $500 academic scholarships. The $1,000 scholarship is funded by Basin Electric Power Cooperative of Bismarck, ND. The additional $500 scholarships are funded by Bon Homme Yankton Electric. These scholarships are designed to recognize and encourage the academic and community achievements of the students in our area.

Applicants must be a dependent of an active electric member and must be students enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course of study at an accredited, two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.

Check back at the end of 2022 to see the requirements and deadline for the 2022-2023 academic scholarship program.

 

2021 Scholarship Winners

$1,000 Basin Electric Scholarship

Zach Loest will graduate from Yankton High School in May with a 4.08 GPA and a class rank of 28 out of 228. He plans to attend South Dakota Schools of Mines and Technology and study chemical or mechanical engineering. His career goal is to obtain an engineering position in South Dakota.

Zach has been active throughout his high school career in soccer, math tutoring, and multiple volunteer programs. He has received many honors and awards including Academic All-State Honors, All-Conference Soccer team, All-State Soccer team, and member of the 2019 ESD and State AA Championship team. In addition to his extracurricular activities, Zach works at Yankton Hy-Vee. Zach’s parents are Greg and Cheri Loest.

$500 Bon Homme Yankton Electric Scholarship

Isabell Sees will graduate from Irene-Wakonda High School with a 4.0 GPA and a class rank of 1 out of 23. She plans to attend University of Mary to study Psychology. Her future plans are to go to graduate school to receive a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling.

Isabell has been involved in many extracurriculars during her high school career including Yearbook Editor, All-State Choir, Student Body President, State Oral Interpretation, and Honor Society. Isabell has received many awards for her achievements in choir, oral interpretation, and school plays, and she was selected as the valedictorian of her graduating class. In addition to her extracurricular activities, Isabell has worked at Broom Tree Retreat and Conference Center since 2014. Isabell’s parents are Mike and Kris Sees.

$500 Bon Homme Yankton Electric Scholarship

Elizabeth Elsen will graduate from Yankton High School this spring with a 4.05 GPA and a class rank of 13 out of 228. She plans to attend South Dakota State University and study data science. Her career goal is to become an Agricultural Data Scientist.

Elizabeth has been active throughout her high school career with her involvement in cross country, track, band, Science Olympiad, Yankton High School Book Club, and National Honor Society. Her awards and honors include current section leader of the clarinets in YHS’s highest band, 10-time medal winner at state Science Olympiad, Class Officer Treasurer her junior year, band letter, and academic letter and bar. She has volunteered at St. Benedict’s Church and Yankton Community Library and tutored for Math is Fun. Elizabeth’s parents are Mary and Jim Elsen.
